Osun State Youth Policy Document Launch : A Jamboree Of Politics Devoid Of Depth

By Ayo Ologun

One would have expected thata launch of a policy
document on youths in a state like Osun state where millions of her youths Scrabble for direction and light on their path to life and greatness would be such where genuine youths that cuts across the many higher institutions in the state as well as the many youths groups would gather maybe not to critique since the document had already been put together given that it was done conscienciusly and with depth but to have it broken down into pieces for easy conceptualisation by the Supposed youths of the state but otherwise was the case and the whole charade done in the characteristic of what is becoming of every government programs in Osun state where governance is hardly seperatable from politics.

A peep into the venue of the event shows no
likelihood of seriousness as may be expected of
such very important event as a launch of a policy

A near half of the hall was populated by the usual
Baba lojas and the mama lojas as well as countless
political functionaries.

Except for the visible presence of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State branch and members of the NYSC, nothing else suggests it was a youth event where intellectuallism and robust debate would have been expected.

I have often said it and stand by it that most times, the governor gets bamboozled into events he has no critical idea of. I recall sometimes ago at the Launch of Tourism policy of the state (CUTOSEC) where the Governor said openly that he saw nothing spectacular about what was been done that day.

Of quick remembrance also is the post Endsars
Town hall meeting where it ended as another
government Jamboree other than providing direction
for a more secured state and a more functional
security network in the state.

Government must learn to differentiate between
Governance and Politics. This is very important.

While I give it to the the Honourable commissioner
for Youths and Sports (Yemi Lawal) for been at least intentional about raising a policy document for youths in the state which intends to give direction, there is no excuse for continuously getting things wrong in execution no matter how great the intention is.

God bless the Youths
God bless Osun State.
God bless Nigeria.
