A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, Oluomo Sunday Akere, has said that the Governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola remains the leader of the ruling party in the state.
Akere made this known while featuring on Osun Correspondents’ Chapel personality interview program ”Newspoint” in Osogbo.
Akere who was a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy during the first term of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola posited that there is no argument on the fact that a sitting governor in any state remains the leader of the party in his state.
Akere while denying the rumour that there was a supremacy clash between former governor Rauf Aregbesola and his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola explained that when Aregbesola was governor, he was the leader of the party in the state.
“Likewise, now that Adegboyega Oyetola is the Osun State Governor under the APC, it behoves that he is the leader of the party in the state.”
“Governor Gboyega Oyetola is the leader of our party. Being a sitting governor there is no argument about it, he remains the leader of the party.
“When former Governor Aregbesola was the governor, he was the overall leader of the party in the state. Now that Governor Adegboyega oyetola is the Governor, he is the overall leader of the party in the state, he said.
The former commissioner also debunked insinuations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had been factionalised.
In his words, “There is no double APC in Osun. There is no split in Osun APC. Oyetola is the governor and we must all as loyal party members rally behind him and the party chairman in the state, Prince Gboyega Famodun.”
He, however, noted that the political parties like all other human organisations do have issues and misunderstandings which they are trying to manage.
“We, as a party, have misgivings and internal wranglings but we are managing them,” he added
Speaking on the security situation in the state, the Igbajo-born-politician said insecurity in the state is not a product of perceived political struggle in the state but rise in value decadent across the country.
He also urged the Federal Government to revisit the 2014 CONFAB report to de-escalate the spate of insecurity in the country.
Many of the security crisis in the state, according to Akere, were due to wrangling among different cult groups in some towns in the state.
“Apart from occasional issues of kidnappings on highways, majority of security challenges bedeviling the state is superiority clash among cultist and sometimes transport unions,” Akere submitted while cautioning resident not to ascribe the situation to politics.
“Many times when police get to various crimes scenes in the state, they ended up revealing that most of the suspects are cultists. The crisis has nothing to do with the perceived crisis between Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
In some of the towns superiority clash among cultist lead to upheaval and the state government has recently put in place mechanism to keep the cultist off the street with a view to ensuring that lives and properties of the state populace are secured.
“There is security breaches in Lagos, Oyo, Kwara and many other states, will one said it is because of an misunderstanding between Oyetola and Aregbesola? It is a Nigerian problem that demand holistic approach,” he said.
Reacting to agitation for secession, the former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state said the Federal Government can douse the rising tension by revisiting the 2014 Constitutional Conference Report which is yet to be opened.
“There is too much power at the central and the FG must shed responsibilities to the federating units. We must restructure, the National Assembly should take responsibility of either look at the 2014 CONFAB report or conduct a referendum on the need to restructure and safe the country from further slipping into crisis,” he said.
