A late strike by Ilevbare Daniel of Rovers FC dented the hope of Osun United to return to the second position on the log of Group B1 in a highly explosive encounter played at the Ilorin Township Stadium on Wednesday.

The hosts, who travelled from West to South and the North Central of the country to play 3 matches within a week appeared fagged out from the blast of the whistle as Ilevbare Daniel, Ndukwu Chukwu and Asuquo Inyang threatened in the first half but were denied by Olusola Akilapa, Jerry Okon and goalkeeper Arinze Okoro.

Changes made in the second half by Osun United Coach Bright Omokaro added a bite upfront as Adio Monsuru and Yomi Olaoke had a couple of chances which were saved by Rovers goalie, Isah Ismaila.

Rovers coach brought in Josiah Daniel and Daniel Eni into the game and they combined well with Ilevbare Daniel to threaten Osun United defence but their efforts were saved by Arinze Okoro.

A brilliant chance came the way of Osun United in the 86th minute when Adio Monsuru connected a lob from the flank by Odudu Francis and chested it down for Victor Okeji who failed to tap in.

Rovers thus capitalised on the suicidal miss by Okeji to launch a counter attack to the left flank from where Daniel Josiah located unmarked Ilevbare Daniel who solemnly controlled the ball, created space through Jerry Okon before he fired past Arinze to give Samson Unuanel a bragging right over his former team.

The loss, blamed on fatigue by coach Bright Omokaro was the 3rd this season for Osun United after 8 matches while it was the first away win for Rovers who have climbed up the log.
