Member, House of Representatives, representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe has apologized for the Agony of Nigerians in Diaspora, most especially people of Tiv descent as a result of the petition they issued on the floor of the house on Thursday, 11th March 2021.
Akande-Sadipe who Chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, noted that the Committee has recieved the petitions and has begun investigation on them.
“Your numerous petitions and messages have been well received by me, compiled and is being investigated by the Leadership of the House and the Diaspora Committee”
“This issue is of utmost importance to the House of Representatives and it will be resolved in a matter of days.” She said.
The petition which torch-lighted the wanton killing of Tivs by herdsmen, was said to have been turned down. Over the week, it has generated major concerns by NIDO and Nigerians.
Akande Sadipe stressed that the House would continue to value and prioritize the needs and requests of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
On Monday, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Wase justified the rejection of petition from Tiv people in America, saying that he was guiding the sponsor of the petition on the proper procedure to adopt in presenting the said petition.
Hon Wase said Nigerians in Diaspora are not eligible to file petitions against the federal government on issues regarding crimes committed or linked to herdsmen.
Wase justifying the rejection said the coverage and reportage of the incident have mostly been doctored, slanted and bent to give political and ethnic coloration to the event that was otherwise strictly based on rules of parliamentary procedures
