Author Of The Competent Youth , James Useghan Other Donate COVID-19 Preventive Materials, Books To Their Alma Mater

Old students of Surulere Senior Secondary School, set of 2002 recently donated 600 Facemasks and books
( The Competent Youth ) as part of efforts to give back to their alma mater.

The Facemasks and book project led by James Useghan, Afeez Ajibade, Foluke Martins, Kazeem Ajagbe, Aminat Adetu and Muis Adeleke and was presented in the presence of the current principal, Mrs. Aina Sani, and present students in the school premises.

The school situated at 31A Ladipo Labionjo Crescent ,Surulere was founded on 26th September, 1980 with Mr. V.K. Ogunyemi as pioneer Principal.

Presenting the items to the principal, students and teachers of the school on James Useghan advised the students to make good use of the face masks and books in order to encourage the association to be more committed to the development of the school.

Mr Useghan appealed to the students to behave morally and face their studies squarely in order to be good ambassadors of their school, families and communities.

Another old student, Mrs Amina Adetu said “ we are happy we are doing this by giving back to our alma mata and also to safe guard the students that is why we distributed over 600 face masks.

We also gave them copies of The Competent Youths written by James Useghan, as a way of encouraging them to read and know about things they didn’t know before.”

Adekeye Muis, ex student of Surulere Senior Secondary School told the gathering we came here to donate books and facemasks to the school which will be of great benefit to the school.

We also have the intention of doing more for our school, he said.

For Helen Essien, she added “ we are here to donate Facemasks and books so that they can read and learn more about what is going on in the country. When the students read the book, it enlightens their mind and it will make them to be great leaders in the country in future.

Essien urged the students to concentrate on their books and motivate themselves by reading extensively and they should imbibe the culture of integrity and been honest and should be their watchword.

The principal of the school, Mrs Sani expressed her happiness for the presentation. She commended the old students fir their gesture and prayed for them for remembering their alma mata.

Mba Precious who represented the students said the visit by the old students is encouraging because they are presently in SS3 and they will soon graduate from the school and they are spurred to do likewise when they also have the opportunity in future.

Precious promised that the students would wear the face masks and they would also read the books given to them because through books they would acquire more knowledge about things happening in the world.
