Poly Lecturers Protest, Distrup Ongoing Examination

Academic activities at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti have been put on hold following a protest by members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP over failure of the management to meet their demands.

As a result of the protest, the entrance gate was locked thereby denying students who were supposed to continue the the second semester examination that began yesterday access into the school.

Speaking during the protest, the Chairman of ASUP, Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Chapter, Dr. Olabisi Olasehinde said the protest became necessary as several dialogues with the management have not yielded positive results.

He explained that the management has failed to pay the lecturers the Continue Education Center’s entitlements for first semester, 2019/2020 academic session as well as the accumulated de-migration arrears and cooperative deductions.

He said the union would ensure that the ongoing second semester examination for 2019/2020 did not continue until their demands were met.

In a reaction, the Spokesperson for the institution, Mr. Adeyemi Adejolu described the protest as a deliberate attempt to dent the image of the Rector.

He noted that the Management had started paying the CEC claims since last week Friday, saying those who have not seen theirs might have issue with their respective banks.

On the issue of other allowances raised by the Lecturers, Mr. Adejolu said it had been cleared long ago, adding that it was just brought up to malign the Rector.
