Osun Residents Grumble Over High Cost Of Food Stuffs, Blame FG

Residents of Osun have blamed President Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress, APC, federal government over the inflation of prices of foot stuffs.

They said, Buhari led administration since 2015 has always demonstrates less concern on the well being of a common man on the street, insisted that his “anti-peoples policies” have cause more damage on the country’s food security.

Their reactions were gathered by BlazeNewz on Wednesday during different interviews with market women and other residents in the state capital, Osogbo .

Mrs Abike Orunasu who sells cooking ingredients at the popular Akindeko Market, Osogbo told our reporter that prices of her market had been unstable since two weeks ago.

According to her ” Since two weeks ago the prices at which I bought cooking ingredients from wholesalers had suddenly skyrocketed which made me to also change my selling prices to my customer in order to make profit.

“Although customers do complain, but they too understand situation of the country, hopefully things will get better in coming weeks ” she said.

Another woman who sells garri, identified as Iya Ibrahim in her own explanation of why a congo of the commodity suddenly move up to 400 naira, said the cost of transportation to move the food item from farm to market was the primary cause of the hike.

BlazeNewz gathered that a congo of garri which was previously sold for 300 to 350 naira a week ago now sells at the rate of 400 to 450 naira.

“We usually buy 100 tubers of yam at the rate of 20,000 but it is now 25,000. The tubers of yam that we sell for N1,500 is now N2,000, a yam seller told our reporter.

However, prices of vegetables like, tomato, pepper and other green leafs remain stable since two weeks ago.

Father of three, Mr Ibuku Israel in his own reaction stressed that the hike in the prices of food stuffs was the result of bad policies of President Buhari led administration on agriculture and food processing.

“A government that can not feed its citizens is a failed one and must never be praised by anyone including politicians” he said.
