NNL: Osun United Host Nnewi United In Week 2 Encounter On Saturday

As the 2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) enters Week 2, Osun United will play host to Nnewi United at the Osogbo Township Stadium tomorrow Saturday, February 20, 2021.

In their respective week 1 matches, Osun United forced Go Round to a 1-1 draw in Omoku, Rivers State to pick one point on the road while Nnewi United lost in Abeokuta to Nilayo FC by 1 goal to 2.

Going by the previous meetings between the two sides, the ‘Omoluabi Giants’ can boast of better records over the ‘Anaedo Lions’ on head to head meetings.

In the 2017 edition of NNL where the two sides were in the same group, Osun United, in April 2017, hammered Nnewi United in the first leg in Osogbo by 2 unreplied goals while Nnewi United were held to a 2-2 draw at their backyard in Oba by the then red hot Osun United.

In the 2018 NNL, the ‘Omoluabi Giants’ narrowly lost by a lone goal to ‘Anaedo Lions’ in the first leg which held in Oba while Osun United walloped Nnewi United by 2 goals to nil in the reverse fixture which held at the Osogbo Township Stadium in August 2018.

Summarily, in the last four meetings between the two sides, Osun United won 2, drew 1 and lost one, scoring 6 goals and conceding 3.

A win for Osun United in tomorrow’s game may catapult the team to the top 2 with 4 points while Nnewi United may remain at the bottom of the log in the Group B1.

The match, which will kick off by 4pm will be held in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol as directed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the League Management.
