Osun Wins 2021 Ilupeju U-15 Basketball Championship

Resourceful Coach Taiwo Ajibola, popularly called Eleniyan on Saturday, January 30, 2021 put the state on the national limelight after leading the u-15 boys and girls to win the 2021 Ilupeju Classic Basketball Championship in Lagos.

The veteran Osun Basketball Coach, who singlehandedly sponsored and financed the team to the tournament navigated through the group stage by easing past Warlords and Ravens who both represented Sango at the one week memorable event.

It was a walk in the park for Osun State representative as they dispatched River Dragons team by a massive scoreline in the semi final to book a place in the mouthwatering epic final against another top opponents, Topfield u-15 who conquered all their enemies to reach the final.

The epic final between Osun and Lagos was a memorable one with attack and counterattack by both sides as well as several attempts and world class saves.

At the end, “Eleniyan Giants” emerged victorious with a resounding 26-17 win over Topfield of Lagos to coast home the tournament’s gold medal.

Speaking with newsmen after the final, Osun State Basketball coach Taiwo Ajibola lauded his team for the surprise performance against the ‘Lagos Giants’ who had been tipped to win the tournament.

“Honestly am happy with the victory because I never thought we could be the overall champions of the event. I have to thank my players for playing according to instruction and I appreciate our Chairman, Engineer Opeyemi Babalola ‘Webber’ for his support all the time.

“The victory is for our Chairman and the boys and I want to assure our fans that we will keep the ball rolling in all events we participate,” stated Eleniyan.

The team is expected to be back to Osogbo, the state capital today.
