The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Osun State chapter has kicked against the crude maltreatment of lawmakers elected on the platform of the party, calling on Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Speaker Timothy Owoeye to immediately purge themselves of the undemocratic tendencies that have defined their conducts in the last 18 months.

The opposition party made this displeasure known today through a press release signed by Deputy Publicity Secretary of the state, Alhaji Y. K Idowu made available to newsmen in Osogbo.

The release reads “We must stress that legislature is a unique set-up that gives people the opportunity to be heard irrespective of their political party affiliation, hence, we find it a clear affront on the people any attempt to silence their elected representatives.

“We are proud of our lawmakers and firmly stand with them in their quest to make sure the right thing is done, and as such, enjoins Oyetola and Owoeye to drop their partisan garb and show leadership expected of their respected offices”.

“Unarguably, PDP lawmakers have shown encouraging traits of patriotism and dedication to duty by ignoring partisan considerations in working for the good of Osun people. As co-pilots in the present vehicle of governance in the state, the PDP lawmakers have demonstrated immeasurable love for the state with maximum cooperation with the APC led administration in the state even at personal costs.

“Therefore, we expect the APC-led government to treat them with commensurate respect and be fair to them and the people they represent in every dealings that concerns governance. It is instructive to state that this is the only acceptable way to do things in a democracy” the PDP said.
