Transfer: Ozil Set To Depart Arsenal For Fenerbache

Mesut Ozil is set for a move to Turkish side Fenerbache with his Arsenal career appearing to be coming to an end.

Turkey’s Demiroren news agency and other Turkish media have reported that Fenerbache have agreed to sign the Gunners outcast this month on a three-year deal.

Ozil fuelled rumours over a move to Fenerbahce on Tuesday with a social media post about Istanbul.

The 32-year-old German has not played for Arsenal since March and was not named in the club’s squad for either the Premier League or Europa League by manager Mikel Arteta.

Ozil, who has long been linked with a move to Fenerbahce, is free to speak to other clubs because he is in the final six months of his £350,000-a-week deal at Arsenal.

It is understood Arsenal are yet to have any formal contact with Fenerbache over a deal.

Ozil is also interested in a move to MLS, with Wayne Rooney’s former club DC United having held talks over a deal once his contract at Arsenal ends. The chance to grow his personal brand in America is thought to appeal to Ozil.

Last summer there was also concrete interest in the German from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Asked recently if Ozil could come back into his plans for the second half of the season, Arteta said: “We will see what happens in the transfer window and we will assess at the end of that.”
