RevolutionNow movement, Osun state chapter has called on President Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress, APC government to quickly reverse the hike of electricity tariff and new petrol pump price within three weeks or expect a massive protest on October 1st.
The movement stormed the state capital, Osogbo on Tuesday in a peaceful protest under the umbrella of National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS in collaboration with Joint Action Front and Amica Cabral Ideological School Movement, Acis-M amidst heavily armed security personnel.
The protesters held placards with different description of ” NANS say no to deregulation of oil sector” “reverse PMS price right now” ” we condemn the insensitivity of Buhari led government to the current hardship faced by Nigerians, palliatives not inflation.”
Speaking, Olawale Bakare, who led the RevolutionNow protesters said the introduction of the new hike of electricity tariff and petrol pump price was a rude decision taken by the federal government without considering the citizens.
Bakare noted that RevolutionNow protesters may be little in number but have the strength to resist all forms of bad governance for the betterment of Nigeria.
He also said that RevolutionNow movement is fully ready to stage massive protest across the country on the independent day celebration if the hikes are not reversed.
The state coordinator of Acis-m, Comrade Akin Gofment Asifat in his own reaction said Students and Nigerian masses are ready to take their destiny into their hands if federal government continues to oppress with anti-citizen policies.
He further said Nigeria belongs to all citizens not the political class alone , whom he explained have disappointed their fellow compatriots in providing social amenities.
He , however, called on Trade Union Congress, TUC and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC to come out and join the protest in resisting the new inflation in electricity and petrol.
In his own reaction, convener of the Joint Action Front, Comrade Afred Adegoke said the government led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has no justification for inflating prices of petrol and electricity when it is still struggling to fulfill electoral promises.
According to Comrade Afred “People who were former heads of state at the age of 30s in the 70s are now coming back to rule Nigeria at the age of 70s.”
He further said if Nigerians allow the new petrol pump price to stay they will later buy the product at the rate of three hundred naira.
