Ijesa North PDP Threatens To Stage Protest Against Refusal To Reinstate Adagunodo

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijesa North Federal Constituency have called on the National leadership of the party to either reverse the “step aside order” waged on the Osun State Chairman of the party, Hon Soji Adagunodo or appoint another trusted and loyal member of the party to complete the Adagunodo’s tenure.

A source in Obokun Local Government area of the State disclosed that members of the party are set to stage a protest at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja next week.

According to him ” we are demanding from the National Leadership of the party to either reinstate Hon. Soji Adagunodo as Chairman of the party or appoint another competent and loyal party man in our constituency.

The source quoting Section 47; sub-section 6 of the PDP constitution,”Where a vacancy occurs in any of the offices of the Party, the Executive Committee at the appropriate level shall appoint another person from
the area or zone where the officer originated from, pending the conduct
of election to fill the vacancy”.

” The source averred that vacant positions in the party had already been filled recently with appointment or bye elections into various vacant positions who had either died or elevated into other positions.

He claimed that “in filling the positions, candidates were chosen from the actual local governments where the vacancies existed, but not elsewhere”.

Such filled vacant positions included: Assistant Secretary, Assistant Publicity and Assistant Legal Adviser. “Why should it be now that the drum must be changed.?”, he querried.

“We have waited a lot, the long silence of the Secretariat of the party over the suspension of the chairman is becoming an embarrasement, Ijesa Noth Federal Constituency that comprises of Obokun and Oriade Local Governments of Osun State is the heartbeat of PDP in the State.

We don’t know why we should be should treated with such injustice” The source who claimed anornimity lanented that “PDP members in the constuency are frustrated, disgruntled and disappointed that the national working committee of the party is dilly-dally with the chairmanship position.

This is dangerous for the party in Osun State, any attempt to appoint any other person outside the constituency or delay the appointment will cause regretting effects on the party in the state”, he threatened.

He however stressed that “we are appealing to the Working Committee to either reinstate Hon Adagunodo or appoint another competent party man among numerous personalities in the local government to complete the chairman’s tenure.”

It would be recalled that the substantive state chairman of the party, Hon Soji Adagunodo had been asked to step aside by the National Working Committee of the party since about six months for undisclosed allegations, and the position has not been filled, while members of the party are kept in suspense.
