The Benue state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Sunday Ongbabo has resigned his appointment from Governor Samuel Ortom’s Cabinet.
Briefing newsmen on Wednesday shortly after the state Executive Council meeting at the Government House Makurdi, the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Mrs Ngunan Addingi said Dr Ongbabo dropped his appointment due to personal reasons and the EXCO had conducted a valedictory session during the meeting to bid him welfare.
She said Governor Ortom thanked Ongbabo for his service to the state and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The erstwhile Health Commissioner and Secretary, Benue state Action Committee on Covid-19 was not available for comments at the time of press briefing. However, the Information Commissioner said he refused to disclose the reasons for his resignation.
Dr Ongbabo is the third appointee to resign from Ortom’s Government. The first person who resigned was the Executive Secretary, Teaching Service Board, Dr Wilfred Terlumun Uji, the second was Rev. Emmanuel Aper, and now Dr Ongbabo.
Other decisions taken by the State Executive Council was that the Benue Investment and Property Company limited (BIPC) should surrender the defunct Lobi Bank building located on Old Otukpo road Makurdi to the Benue state Internal Revenue Services, BIRS, so that it will be used as their (BIRS) Corporate Headquarters.
Council also approved the release of 50 million naira to ensure that the Covid-19 protocol are harnessed and operated for the reopening of schools for existing students.
According to Mrs Addingi, the state EXCO also announced the termination of Thursday and Friday work free days which was introduced by the Governor for the month of July to enable civil servants go to farm. The civil servants in the state are to resume full services throughout work days in the week starting from August 1st, 2020.
