Covid -19 : we are to pay the price now

By: Prince Stephen Oyebode

It’s necessary we adhere strictly to the advice of the Government via federal ministry of health and Nigeria centre for disease control ( NCDC ) regarding the complete lockdown mechanism and stay at home strategy. This perhaps will help in monitoring the scourge and spread of the coronavirus in our dear local, state and federal government.

Stephen, a microbiology graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife expressed his concern over the possible surge of the infection in few days to come if this trend continue. He further stated that Covid – 19 is deadly and has no respect for class, sex, origin and age .

Total compliance and conformity to this prohibition of all movements except essential outings is critical and necessary.

At this trying time , it’s also very much important if the government at all levels can make adequate provision for her citizens in the form of palliative measures, this may include those in the health sector, fire Services, environment officials, power and water supply agencies, media and telecommunication officers on duty and the law enforcement agencies, this will eliminate the negative resultant effects of this directive.

The enormous onus rest on the government to ensure all and sundry are protected from the envisaged hunger and destitution that may ultimately become the order of the day.

This may involve movement and distribution of food items and all other fundamental requirements for a successful living.

Those living with one form of disabilities or the other, low income earners, daily wagers, jobless individuals and those who live on daily income should not be left out in this gesture.
