Fire Outbreak : Osun Govt Cautions Residents Against Bush Burning To Avert Fire Outburst


In order to avert future occurrence of fire outbreak during the harmattan season, the Osun State government has warned against indiscriminate setting of bushes on fire saying, this will minimise risks of increased fire outbreaks in the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mr. Solagbade Oladepo gave the warning while fielding questions from newsmen in his office.

Oladepo said, the warning become imperative for the benefit of all and sundry adding that, another method should be applied by the hunters and farmers for them to prepare themselves for another planting season instead of embarking on burning bushes on their farmlands that may lead to fire outbreaks.

The Commissioner said, “Predominantly, the fire outbreaks we used to have during this period will be from bush burning and it spreads fast because of the dry weather”.

Oladepo noted that, in some cases, uncontrolled and indiscriminate bush burning has led to loss of property as well as lives.

The Commissioner admonished the entire people of the state to clear bushes around their houses to prevent them from involving in any fire outbreak most especially when they are not around and someone sets the nearby bush on fire, the area would not be affected by the fire.

According to the Commissioner, the state government would not relent in sensitising the general public on fire prevention and control measures.
